The international workshop 'URBAN PUBLIC SPACE IN THE CONTEXT OF MOBILITY AND AESTHETICIZATION: FACING CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES' organized by Oleg Pachenkov and Lilia Voronkova (CISR, St.-Petersburg) and supported by GSZ, IfEE, AvH Stiftung and CISR has been successfully hold at the Institute for European Ethnology, Humboldt University in Berlin on Friday, 23 April 2010. Social scientists and artists from 7 countries managed to come to the event in spite of the volcano ash and flights disaster. The interdisciplinary event has ended up with the opening of the exhibition 'OPEN/CLOSED': City Squares and Urban Public Life (cases of Manchester, St.-Petersburg, Sofia and Lviv)' curated by Lilia Voronkova. Thank to the kind offer of the Peter Lang Publishing Group the curious audience will get access to the materials of the workshop: the collection of chapters based on the papers presented in Berlin will be published in summer 2011. Right now some materials of the workshop, including the Abstracts of the papers and the introductory speech by O.Pachenkov and L.Voronkova, delivering the main idea and the key issues discussed t the workshop, is available at CISR website (www.cisr.ru).
